I'm posting under a pseudonym for various reasons, but I just wanted to say that Dr. Oyakawa, Jessica, and his other staff members make a great team. I, along with other family members and friends, see Dr. Oyakawa, and I'm very grateful for the skilled and decisive action he took when they had detached retinas and cataracts among other serious and unfun issues. Specifically, the person who had a retinal detachment can still drive and work almost completely normally, which we are immensely grateful for, especially as they're extremely nearsighted and have a load of other eye health issues. In a world where healthcare can be expensive, stressful, and hard to navigate, it's very reassuring to know that I have an ophthalmologist in my corner who I can always trust to make the best healthcare decisions for me and the other important people in my life, especially as I'm currently navigating through subtle changes in my own vision health. My parents, who are often jaded and skeptical about some doctors, trust Dr. Oyakawa one million percent, and I do as well. I've had (and have) pretty extensive health anxiety, so that's saying something. In addition to his skills/knowledge as a physician, Dr. Oyakawa is also extremely personable, is open to chatting about various topics, and has always made us feel comfortable. I'd recommend him to anyone. I have always had pleasant experiences with Nydia, Lucy, and the front desk staff. I had my pupils dilated a few years ago and Nydia was able to answer all of my questions about it afterwards. Lucy and the front desk staff have always been able to work with me, even if I've forgotten my insurance card or ID. Additionally, I wanted to give a shoutout to Jessica, one of the technicians, who is one of the most personable, knowledgeable, and kind professionals I've ever met in the healthcare field. I've seen her at Sharper Vision few times, and I always feel like I am in good hands with her. I feel like she really cares about making sure that every patient has a good experience at the office, and my family members who come to this office completely agree with my assessment. On a personal note, I deeply appreciate the time and effort Jessica spent specifically with me, one-on-one, to educate me (and reassure, to the extent that she could) about my eye conditions. In fact, one of my friends of nearly 7 years has also worked in a similar position in ophthalmology, and I'd even go as far to say that Jessica edges her out maybe just a bit as my favorite tech :)

Absolutely the best treatment for your eyes anywhere in Southern California. I'm a dentist and my vision is critical to me. I researched thoroughly and found Dr. Oyakawa to be the best. About 25 years ago he corrected my vision with Lasix and I could see perfectly. Now, after developing cataracts, he removed the cataracts and placed new lens. I now see perfectly again. In addition to his great surgical skills he's a retinal specialist should I ever need that. He and his team are excellent, they really are the best!

In short, if you want the best, go to Dr. Oyakawa. He and his staff are all excellent. I chose Dr. Oyakawa to do my Lasik procedure about 25 years ago. As a dentist my vision is critical so I thoroughly researched him and found that he truly is the best in Southern California. I have since had cataract surgery and new lens placed by Dr. Oyakawa and I now see better than I have since he did my Lasik. In addition he is a retinal specialist should I ever need that help. My vision is too important to me to trust to anyone else.

I have been with Sharper Vision Center for almost 2 years dealing with severe Glaucoma. I had many procedures, medications and surgeries. The care that I received was amazing! The team was professional, knowledgeable and caring.They saved my vision. They made me feel safe and cared for. I highly recommend Dr Ray Oyakawa and Neddia. My dynamite duo!!! They are FANTASTIC!

Dr. Oyakawa at Sharper Vision Center performed my cataract surgery 4 years ago, and I am so thankful for the good vision I now have without contact lenses or glasses.
Dr. Oyakawa cares about his patients and carefully listens to any concerns I have about my eye health. I appreciate that Dr. Oyakawa is using the latest technology to monitor the health of his patients' eyes. There is no need to have my eyes dilated during my regular exams since Nydia, the technical assistant, takes photos of my retinas. The photos give vital information about my eye health, which Dr. Oyakawa then explains to me in detail. This means a lot to me.
Dr. Oyakawa and his wonderful staff always make my visits a pleasant experience.

My journey to find Dr. Oyakawa took while. Knowing that I needed cataract surgery, I was on a mission to find the right MD and office staff. My criteria was extensive...........the MD had to have outstanding credentials , board certification and performed cataract surgery for over 20 years. Additionally, the office and the staff had to be NICE, respectful and on time. (With an appointment, I wanted to be evaluated on time.) One day at bowling, my friend of many years and her husband showed up without glasses. As long as we had been friends they were never without their eyewear. At that point she described her perfect vision after cataract removal. She and her husband were patients of Dr. Ray's. So, I made an appointment to"see" if Dr. Ray and his staff we right for me. At the first visit, I had extensive testing by Dr. Ray and his assistant of 21 years Nidia. Dr. Ray showed me every image and explained in detail. The rest is history.......I have a new "lens" on life.

Thorough, extremely knowledgeable, and very ethical doctor. Took my father to Dr. Oyakawa and will recommend all my family and friends to go here.

I'd been going to a long-time friend up in the West side for my eye care, but with so many family members going here, I finally gave up my 1 hour drive, and am so VERY happy!  From the staff who did my initial eye exam for glasses, and to Dr Oyakawa who did a very thorough eye exam, I'm very happy with his professionalism and care.  Everyone in my family who has been *seeing* Dr Oyakawa for years and years only had the best things to say about him, and now I know why.  He's very caring, thorough, and explains in detail what he's doing, and how your eyes are.

Dr. Oyakawa is a caring doctor who has an in-depth and holistic approach to ophthalmology. He maintains a professional relationship with patients while also making them feel comfortable. He is thorough and professional. I feel fortunate to have been Dr. Oyakawa's patient, as he has helped my eyesight tremendously. He also has a friendly staff that runs an efficient office.

They take good care of their patients, and go the extra mile.

I hadn't been to an opthamologist in a few years and wanted to get a check up because it seemed like my eyes were slowly being covered by a dark cloud. A co-worker of mine recommended I see her family opthamologist of many years...Dr. Oyakawa. Thank goodness for that. Shortly after my examination, I was shown evidence of cataracts in both my eyes (I was only 49 years old at the time - year 2015 - and I would have never guessed I had cataracts). Anyhow, I told my co-worker and found out that she also had cataracts at a younger than most cases age and said her Crystlens lenses inserted by Dr. Oyakawa worked out very well (she didn't even need to wear glasses anymore). I'm glad I took her and Dr. Oyakawa's advice and went with the Crystlens lenses - they were right.

Dr. Oyakawa is a wonderful opthamologist/surgeon with top notch office staff. I was nervous about the surgery, but Dr. O let me know exactly what to expect in regards to the surgery and follow up procedures - and he was spot on. My surgery went off without a hitch and I continued to see Dr. O on a regular basis for check- ups until I moved out of state about five years later.

Anyhow, I think the world of Dr. O and his skills. I highly recommend him to anyone that is looking for optimal eye care services.

My vision was getting progressively worse and I wanted a second opinion. I researched and found one of the best Lasik Surgeons in the South Bay. Dr. Ray Oyakawa. After getting a free consultation, he felt that Lasik would benefit me and that he could help. Yes, I am older than one should be when getting the surgery, but my eyes were healthy and should heal well. I asked to have my farsightedness fixed. I wanted to be able to drive and shop without glasses. I am now 2 months post surgery. I easily see when driving, and I can also use the computer without glasses. BONUS! Both my far and near vision AND Astigmatism was repaired. It was worth every penny and then some. Now, I use "off the shelf", 150 power reading glasses to avoid eye strain and see small print. Dr Oyakawa and his staff have been amazing and taken great care of me. I can't thank them enough.

I don't usually write a comments, but i feel like doing it. I gotta say this doctor is the one of those gifted people who were born to be a doctor. My case is very rare and complicated. I had to go trough numbers of specialists before i found Dr. Oyakava. For years nobody could figure out what is going on with my eyes (even expensive equipment didn't help much) Dr. Oyakava did it ALL( possible and impossible). I would highly recomend him for those people who lost their hope. You might be able to find it again. I else want to say a few words of appreciation to the staff. They all AMAZING and very professional. Office is very clean and you don't have to seat there for hours waiting for your appointment.

Have always received had a great experience with this office. Highly recommend Dr. Oyakawa and staff for your eye care.

Dr. Oyakawa at Sharper vision has been caring for my eyes and vision for several years including cataract surgery in both eyes. In all that time I have found him highly competent as well as caring and personable. He has proven to be very knowledgeable not only in eye care but other medical areas as well.
His staff has been excellent!

Thank GOD I found Dr Oyakawa....he has taken care of me and my 94 yr old mother for several years....He truly is my miracle worker....Thank you Dr Oyakawa and your wonderful staff!!!
